Window Project / 2014

Exhibition of O Moda, Moda

Created to engage the public in interaction with contemporary art, Window Project is an ever-moving public art space located in the vacant shop windows of Tbilisi, Georgia. The ongoing exhibition will last until a space becomes available [tenanted] to show the works of international and regional contemporary artists, often showcasing established artists alongside emerging local talent. An inspiration for Irina Popiashvili and Tamuna Gvaberidze Window Project’s show became a very distinct sense of style and design that is conveyed in the interior design of the cafe/concept store. These mixed styles and particularly mismatched chairs that one sees in the cafe became an inspiration for the project. The mismatched restored and re-upholstered chairs of O, Moda, Moda lined up against the background of a two-colored painted wall that resembles an old classroom can be interpreted as a design-portrait of Tbilisi today: chairs from different eras, some from famous designers, some from old soviet offices, all standing next to each other and presenting the face of the city.
